Adoption Process

So You Want To Adopt Your New Best Friend

Jackson County Animal Shelter will consider adoptive families in the Black River Falls and surrounding areas. Our goal is to make the best match taking into consideration the animal's background and your family's needs. Every animal is different: personality, temperament, energy, comfort with kids and other animals, medical needs and more. We take all these factors into consideration when making a furever-home match. We are very careful about the placements we make. We do our best to match the right animal with the right adoptive home because we want this to be the pet's permanent home.

If you are willing to wait for the right animal to be matched to you,
you are an ideal candidate for Jackson County Animal Shelter. As our success rate proves, these precious animals are well worth the wait.

OUR PROCESS

Apply

1

We appreciate you wanting to bring a animal into your home. In order for us to find the right pet for you, we need you to submit an adoption application. Adoption necessitates the signing of a legal agreement. Therefore, the adopter must be a minimum of 18 years old to proceed with adopting a pet.

Review

2

We will review your application upon receipt. If we have any questions or concerns, we will contact you for clarity. Completing an application does not guarantee adoption of the animal. Multiple applications may be considered for each pet, and our aim is to select the most suitable home for each individual animal's needs. If JCAS denies an application, we are not implying that you would be a bad pet owner, only that your situation isn’t right for that animal’s needs.

Finding Your Pet

3

Once approved for adoption, your journey to find the perfect animal companion begins. Our dedicated staff will assess the pets in our program, ensuring they align with your criteria and lifestyle. We value open dialogue about any specific animals you're interested in. Our goal is to facilitate successful adoptions that create fulfilling companionships for you and your new furry family member.

Meet-And-Greet

4

Once you've identified a pet that seems well-suited to your home, circumstances, and lifestyle, we can arrange a meet-and-greet. Families with children under the age of 6 must spend time with the pet to observe their interaction. Additionally, if you're considering adopting a dog and already have another dog at home, we recommend bringing your existing pet along to ensure compatibility. If the meet-and-greet goes smoothly, we may proceed with the adoption process.
